A family history since 1697
By taking over the family estate, François Schmitt refocused the activity on viticulture in the 70s. It acquired new slopes, including the Grands Crus Bollenberg and Pfingstberg, and expanded its premises. His son Frédéric joined the domaine in 1998, after completing his studies in viticulture and oenology. Then, in 2010, he was joined by his wife, Myriam, who welcomed customers into a brand-new sales cellar. The estate, already organic since 2005, is converting to biodynamics and will be certified Demeter in 2019.
Philosophy
Frédéric and Myriam produce distinctive wines that transcribe their terroirs. Biodynamics, which accompanies this approach, makes it possible to recreate a new biotope that protects and benefits the vines. The production of a wine is governed by a set of factors (human, climatic, geological, …), which is why the estate remains open to a global vision in this area.
