A gourmet and dedicated cuisine

At the restaurant l’Essentiel in Colmar, enjoy an original vision of French gastronomy put forward by its Chef Olivier Reither who has been showing for several years his love for good products.

The restaurant l’Essentiel in Colmar is aptly named, with a menu showcasing the very essence of the products. The chef and his wife have one goal: to offer their customers a real moment of well-being. A dedication as careful in form as on the plate. The menu, renewed weekly, offers every day to discover part of French cuisine. At a very reasonable price, enjoy a complete and exceptional menu that will surprise and seduce you. Like the cold soup of cucumber and mint followed by a beef stir-fry with lemongrass, homemade potato pancake and with for dessert an unusual roasted pineapple with West Indian rum.

Knowing that the house offers every week a vegetarian dish that can satisfy the cravings of gastronomy, sometimes put to the test by the follow-up of a particular diet and a difficulty to find restaurants of this level offering such a service.

A French delicacy

The chef creates his recipes based on inspiration, with a slight appeal to rack of lamb. With the exception of bread and ice cream, the entire menu is homemade, from the sauce base to the fleischnacka dough.

The appreciation of a meal at l’Essentiel goes through the enthusiasm of the chef at the idea of discovering and creating authentic recipes. “Gastronomy is the art of using food to create happiness” – Theodore Zeldin. This is the watchword of this modest restaurant in Colmar that they highlight in their menu and that we find brilliantly executed in each of their dishes. This winter, come and discover the Pike Moss with its Alsace saffron emulsion and black tiger prawns. Or the Hare stuffed with foie gras and prunes with its Port caramel, which you can accompany with a glass of Margaux 2015 L’enclos du Banneret.

Years of growth and research

Enjoying observing the pots and pans and the various dishes simmered by the fire, the chef of the establishment was first won over by his mother’s cooking. A cook by trade, she quickly noticed her son’s attraction to all his preparations and made him her apprentice to pass on her knowledge and love of the culinary art.

Then trained in large Alsatian houses, he honed his knowledge and today holds a complete knowledge adjusted from year to year. On the way to the kitchen, he also met his wife who brings him support and rigor in his work. In order to show their vision of gastronomy, the idea of opening their own restaurant took shape.

“We both sincerely hope that you, and your taste buds, will escape the time of some dishes in our company! “
