A true family story

On the Alsace Wine Route and in the heart of the Couronne d’Or vineyards, the Maurice Heckmann estate has been classified as “High Environmental Value” since 2020. In the 60s, Maurice’s parents ran a mixed farming operation, which they gradually turned to marketing wine. Maurice Heckmann took over the family business in 1988 after studying at the Lycée viticole de Beaune. Sylvie, his wife, joined him in 1991, and Guillaume, their youngest son, joined them in 2014 after completing his studies.

Care, rigor and tradition are the key words for quality wines, and Maurice and his son Guillaume understand this. It’s in this spirit that they tend their vines and vinify their wines with passion, while respecting nature and its environment.

Our wines bear the imprint of our terroirs, from which they have drawn their richness and fine, pleasant acidity.
The marriage of these characteristics results in spicy, full-bodied, well-balanced wines that are our pride and joy. They’re just like the winemaker: authentic.

Philosophy

The estate’s watchwords are care, rigor and tradition. Maurice, Sylvie and Guillaume use environmentally-friendly growing methods to produce authentic wines that reflect the terroir and the winemaker’s passion.

Our favorite

Riesling Grand Cru Engelberg is a dry, complex wine with citrus notes. Its well-balanced structure becomes more mineral with age. Lively and lemony, its freshness is ideal with fish.

Situated on the slopes of Mount Scharrach, the Engelberg vineyard was first mentioned in a charter in 884.

The terroirs

The estate stretches over 11 hectares between Dahlenheim and Avolsheim, and includes the Finkenberg and Grand Cru Engelberg. The soils, essentially marl and limestone, give the wine good staying power. The estate cultivates all 7 Alsatian grape varieties, and also works on blends, including the Argentoratum cuvée, and offers certain vintages as Vendanges Tardives and Sélection Grains Nobles.
