Domaine Louis Speitel

Family history and know-how for 3 generations

In Dambach-la-ville, in 1891, Ernest and Joséphine Speitel cultivated the first hectares of vines on the estate to which their son, Louis, gave his name. Succeeding his parents, Christophe and Doris, Anthony Speitel is the 4th generation of a 5.5 ha family business. Thanks to the fresh eye of this new generation, the estate is aiming to work more closely with nature by converting the entire property to organic farming (certification in 2022).

Philosophy

Today’s business is much more versatile than in the past. The approach is also more qualitative. The estate wants to let nature and time take their course, letting the vines express themselves and using green fertilizers and indigenous yeasts in particular. With specific, dry vinifications and a renewed emphasis on blends, Anthony Speitel aims to put terroir before grape variety, and to offer more gourmet, upmarket wines for greater pleasure.

The terroirs

At the center of the Alsace Wine Route, the estate stretches from Dieffenthal to Itterswiller, and includes 1 ha of Grand Cru Frankstein. 2/3 of the vineyards are underlain by granitic soil, which gives the wine greater minerality, salinity and brilliance on the palate.
