Increase in expenditure compared with 2023

Sunday, the leading provider of restaurant payment solutions, has analyzed meals at its partner establishments on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024. The findings offer an interesting insight into the gastronomic habits of the French.

On the evening of December 31st, the French spent an average of €65 per person, compared with €61 the previous year.

Île-de-France stands out as the region that spends the most, with an average of €77 per guest, followed by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (€69) and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (€68).

The biggest bill was paid in the Paris region, at €7,549, although this was less than the previous year’s record (€18,705).

Bretons: champions of tipping

When it comes to generosity, the Bretons shine, with more than one table in three (37%) leaving a tip. On average, tips represent 6% of the bill in France.

Île-de-France still holds the prize for the biggest individual tip, reaching €58. Proof that the end-of-year festivities remain a time for sharing and thanking restaurateurs.

Conviviality and record numbers of guests

New Year’s Eve is also a time for getting together. This year, the average number of French people at table was 3.2, compared with 2.7 last year.

In Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the most festive evening brought together up to 32 guests around the same table!

A dining experience that varies from region to region

In Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, meals last the longest, with an average duration of 2 h 50, while Hauts-de-France prefers quick dinners, completed in just 1 h 40.

The average meal in France lasts 2 hours 07 minutes.

Satisfaction at the rendezvous

Hauts-de-France and Occitanie have the highest satisfaction ratings, with an average score of 4.8 out of 5.

These regions seem to have mastered the art of delivering an unforgettable experience, both in terms of food quality and service.
