Le Caseus, Traditional Savoyard and Alsatian restaurant
The restaurant offers a warm welcome in the center of Thann. In winter, we offer Savoyard and mountain cuisine such as fondues, tartiflettes and more. In summer, you can enjoy Alsatian specialities, salads and grilled meats on our shaded terrace. Tuesday to Friday, daily lunch menu.
A true place to live, the establishment is also steeped in history.
After the war, it was in this house that “Mamie Alba” created the famous Alba ice creams and began marketing them. In 1981, the former ice-cream parlour became a restaurant and enjoyed its first successes.
Attached to the soul of this family business, Valérie Calligaro and Michel Vaccaro decided to take over the company in 1993 and breathe new life into it.
Baptized the Caseus, which means “cheese” in Latin, the very loyal clientele soon renamed the establishment “Khaas Hüs”, literally “The House of Cheese” in Alsatian.
Together, they decided to offer their guests cheese specialties, a nod to Michel’s mother, a former creamer.
Initially made up exclusively of cheese dishes, the menu has evolved over time to offer a more varied range of dishes.
In 2012, Valérie and Michel bought the adjoining house to enlarge the space and offer their guests the chance to enjoy the warmth of fine weather thanks to an intimate, shaded terrace.
Today, with a team of 20 people, the establishment offers two annual menus, one for winter and one for summer.
In charge of the stoves is Chef Hanane Naibat, who has come from her native Morocco to immerse herself in the richness of French gastronomy, and to delight her customers’ taste buds.
Famous for its atypical decor, which changes with the seasons and events, the establishment is also renowned for the way it decorates its storefront during the festive season.
The masterpiece of the house, the zinc bar is also the place where the restaurant’s regulars like to meet.
A word of advice: Don’t hesitate to visit the toilet when you’re in the restaurant.
