A Journey Through Railway History
Located in Mulhouse, the Cité du Train is Europe’s largest railway museum and a true immersion into the history of railways. This exceptional place traces “the evolution of trains, from their origins in the 19th century to the most modern technologies. Through impressive locomotives, vintage carriages and immersive reconstructions, visitors discover the impact of rail on society and industry.”
From majestic steam trains to the first TGVs, and including the luxurious carriages of the Orient Express, each exhibited piece tells a fascinating story. The dynamic staging and carefully crafted sets allow visitors to relive the atmosphere of the great railway eras, as if embarking on a journey through time.

Beyond a simple exhibition, the Cité du Train offers a truly immersive adventure. Thanks to interactive displays, visitors can board trains, explore driver’s cabins, and discover the daily life of railway workers. Simulators even allow them to step into the shoes of a driver and experience the sensations of piloting a locomotive.
Younger visitors are not forgotten, with educational workshops, mini-trains, and playful spaces to better understand how railways work. Each visit thus becomes a unique moment, where technology and heritage meet to bring the passion for trains to life in all its forms.
