Recognition for a terroir of excellence

Alsace once again asserted the excellence of its terroir at the Concours Général Agricole 2025, winning a total of 176 medals.

  • 115 medals for wines

  • 11 medals for eaux-de-vie

  • 12 medals for dairy products

  • 38 medals for other local products

Among the 36 winning producers of the Prix d’Excellence, Alsace wines Nicollet Gérard et Fils (68) won over the jury. Alsatian products and producers were also honored with numerous medals in their own categories, including Fleuri de Rosheim, Munster Grand Sapin, Distillerie Meyer’s, and Brasserie Meteor.

Many of these prizewinners are affiliated with the Savourez l’Alsace® and Savourez l’Alsace Produit du Terroir® brands, which promote Alsatian origin and know-how.

These labels guarantee consumers products processed in Alsace using local raw materials, supporting the regional economy and preserving culinary traditions.

A special mention goes to Alsace sauerkraut, which won three medals in its first official appearance at the competition.

  • Gold medal for raw sauerkraut from Maison Le Pic, Meistratzheim

  • Silver medal for raw sauerkraut from SCEA Frieh JM

  • Gold medal for cooked sauerkraut from SARL René Weber & Fils, Krautergersheim

This recognition is all the more significant as sauerkraut becomes the first vegetable to enter the Concours Général Agricole, after an experimental entry in 2024. The initiative was spearheaded by the Association de Valorisation de la Choucroute d’Alsace (AVCA), with the aim of highlighting this emblematic regional product, which accounts for over 70% of national production.

The selection process for the competition was rigorous: six Alsatian producers submitted a total of 11 samples of raw and cooked sauerkraut, evaluated by a panel of 10 experts at the Salon International de l’Agriculture. Criteria included texture, flavor and overall product quality. The samples were taken under official supervision and kept until the final tasting, thus guaranteeing the integrity of the process.

These distinctions reflect the commitment of Alsace’s producers to maintaining high standards of quality and authenticity, reinforcing the region’s gastronomic reputation. Congratulations to all the winners for their contribution to promoting Alsace’s culinary heritage.
