Die runde Form und die goldene Farbe erinnern an die Sonne, ein Symbol f\u00fcr die R\u00fcckkehr des Lichts nach dem Winter. Au\u00dferdem verwendeten die Bauern zu dieser Jahreszeit \u00fcbersch\u00fcssiges Mehl f\u00fcr die Herstellung von Pfannkuchen, die ein Symbol f\u00fcr den Wohlstand im kommenden Jahr waren.<br \/>\nIn den Vereinigten Staaten ist der 2. Februar nicht Lichtmess, sondern ein ganz besonderer Feiertag: der Groundhog Day, oder &#8222;Tag der Murmeltiere&#8220;.
